For the first time in the history of the Champion League the Royal Navy have leapt into the lead with 10 points. In equal second place with 9 points are Ridgebacks and Fyfield Flyers with Kingsettle snapping at their heals with 8.5 points. What is for sure is that it will be all change this weekend for the Maddison Cup.

At last, at last – two whole days of sunshine and a total of 45 chukkas of polo.

We welcomed back Peter O’Rourke’s team – Strategic in the 2 goal Queen’s Royal Hussars which they won with a narrow win over Ridgebacks. the combination of James Haigh and Matt Evetts gelled superbly and provided a solid support for Peter himself and Adrian de Ferranti upfront.

We were impressed by Matt Simpson last week and it was elegant play by Matt Evetts that caught the eye this weekend. This was another visiting team who played clean sporting polo and were fun to be on the same ground with.

Wyke Cats opened their season with a bang by winning the low goal section of the Queen’s Royal Hussars Cup, with all 4 players well up to handicap, but Saskie Weijand played a blinder in her first ever tournament – watch out Richard!

Other novices to be congratulated on their low goal action were Kate Harding, Stefan Mieczkowski, Rob Johnson (what a leap forward!) and a returning Rory Edmunds. Keep going guys but read the Blue Book or watch the DVD too!

Watching some of it were 6 new comers to polo on Jess Andrew’s novice course who “were amazed by how much and how quickly they learned” – and they did too. Now they have to go for the Rules Test over 6/7 July!

We played for the Kingsett Cup both days last weekend – who else did? 23 chukkas on Saturday but only (?) 19 on Sunday – and sunshine too!

Great win for Kingsettle who are also now top of the Champion Team league. 2nd by half a goal were visitors La Piru – voted the nicest team to play with. They gave it everything but never complained. Mat Simpson is a good umpire too. Come back guys: we love you!

Classic and Sports Finance, a new club team put together by Rob Johnson made its debut and fought through to a tough third place over Legal Action.

We are expecting a full turnout at both levels of the Queens Royal Hussars Cup next weekend (2 goal and -2 goal) when Maggie White’s Coombe Place will want to retain the trophy.

It will be busy as we have a fullish Novice Course running at the same time. No lunch for Jess again!

Tomorrow’s chukkas have been cancelled – the ground is just too wet. The weather forecast is looking a lot better for this weekend for the Kingsett Cup and two matches against Eton. Book in for a Kingsett place before it is too late – and discuss options with Jess…

Rabbit Cup Results…..

Congratulations to everybody who played in the Rabbit Cup on Saturday. Sadly we had to cancel Finals Day on Sunday due to bad weather and a waterlogged ground. Yes – even at Perham. Nothing to do with staff hangovers after the very successful Start of Season party on Saturday night!
